Why I started offering Tele-therapy/Online counselling

Throughout the pandemic in 2020, and the beginning of this year, I’ve seen a huge need for tele-therapy/online counselling.

The Coronavirus pandemic has put a lot of pressure on relationships, and a lot of couples have faced moments of crises during the past year and a half. While we’ve faced a number of ‘lockdowns’ and social distancing limitations, the need for counselling and support has increased.

I began offering tele-therapy/online counselling as an option last year in order to ensure my clients were able to access the help they need - at the time that they need it. It has also allowed me to meet with clients who are not based in my town.

What is Tele-therapy / Online Counselling?

Tele-therapy or online counselling allows for therapy to take place remotely using telecommunications technologies, such as video conferencing or smartphone technology.

The preferred platform for tele-therapy are discussed between the client and the therapist. Platforms include: Skype, Zoom, WhatsApp video call, and Google Hangouts.

Benefits of Online Counselling

One of the benefits of tele-therapy is that the client and therapist can communicate without being in the same physical location. This can be helpful in ensuring continuity of care, no matter where the client is based at the time.

Phone and online counselling are seen by many to be a helpful alternative to traditional face-to-face counselling due to the fact that clients can be in their own place of comfort. They feel safe and secure, and are able to share more freely than in a more formal counselling environment.

People who choose teletherapy do not have to sit in busy waiting rooms but can seek treatment in the privacy of their own homes. For some, this also alleviates privacy concerns.
