Getting a Third Party to Talk to your Child about Sex
Sometimes a child (of whatever age) may refuse to discuss the topic of sex with his/her parents.
Often this is because they have heard things from their peers such as “I’ll never talk about sex with my parents!Gross!”
Or they may have had a sexual encounter which they don’t feel comfortable enough to talk to their parents about.
Don’t ever leave your child to “figure it out on their own”
If you know that your child is struggling to understand anything about sex – from puberty to their own sexuality – it is extremely important that you find someone that they are willing to talk to.
Often, children will feel happier talking about sex with an unbiased third party such as a psychologist or a sexologist. Talking about sex with a third party will allow the child to put aside their fears of rejection or anger and increase their comfort zone.
If you struggle to make sex an open topic with your child, or if you find that it is a subject of contention between you, I suggest that you enlist the help of a third party to ensure that your child’s sexual education is accurate and has their best interests at heart.
