Sexual Concerns
Did you know that at least 3 out of 10 men, and 4 out of 10 women, experience sexual health and sexual functioning issues at some point during their lives? (Journal of the American Medical Association).
The most common issues faced by men include: premature ejaculation, erectile dysfunction and low sexual desire.
Women face issues with arousal, low sexual desire and pain during intercourse.
Therapy for such issues has a high success rate, and seeking help will help you find the solution to a more fulfilling sexual experience.
How does sex and relationship therapy work?
The therapist will evaluate the individual (or couple’s) issues from a holistic point of view. This means taking into account both the physical, psychological and environmental factors that could be causing the issue.
The most common causes of sexual problems include tiredness, hormonal imbalances and conflict in a relationship.
Would I benefit from seeking help?
Anyone who is experiencing a sexual health issue in any of the following areas will benefit from therapy:
- Confusion about sexuality
- Difficulties with orgasm
- Dyspareunia (painful intercourse)
- Erectile dysfunction
- Loss of sexual desire (low libido)
- Premature ejaculation / Inhibited ejaculation
- Relationship conflict due to sexual issues (difference in levels of desire, pain, fear etc)
- Sexual addiction
- Sexual aversion (anxiety, fear, disgust)
- Sexual rehabilitation (following surgery or illness)
- Sexual trauma due to abuse/molestation
- Vaginismus (involuntary spasm of the muscles surrounding the vaginal opening)
As a relationship therapist and clinical sexologist, I have seen it all. And I truly believe that if a couple really wants to rekindle that spark, it IS possible. Even if they have faced challenging times or infidelity.
